New Codes Forcing Some Florida Homeowners To Demolish And Rebuild After Hurricane Matthew
Dec. 15, 2016
Some Florida residents whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Matthew have no choice but to demolish existing structures and rebuild due to new building codes. One St. Augustine home, cited in a report from a northern Florida TV station, had suffered damage exceeding 50% of its value. It was built with a 7-foot elevation, but must now be rebuilt at least nine feet above ground. Several other homeowners were in the same situation, the report said.
