As the companion show home to The New American Home®, TNAR highlights the power of a “soft remodel” by updating existing structures with cutting-edge building techniques and design practices rather than completely tearing down and building new.

Led by the Phil Kean Design Group of Winter Park, Fla., the project transforms a home built in the 1950s into a modern, energy-efficient masterpiece.

The residence had previously been renovated in various styles over the years, leaving its character fragmented. Phil Kean’s vision was to unify and renew the home’s disparate elements into one cohesive design that feels current and timeless.

“With The New American Remodel, our mission was to honor the home’s original character while transforming it into a model of modern performance and design,” Kean says.

The updated layout features a 3,413-square-foot open floor plan with intentional design strategies to define distinct living spaces. Kean describes the overall aesthetic as having a “tropical Miami” flair with a touch of historical charm.

“We carefully preserved key architectural elements, while integrating advanced building technologies and materials,” explains Kean. “The result is a seamless blend of history and innovation, proving that with the right vision, even a decades-old structure can surpass the expectations of tomorrow’s homeowner.”

By combining the latest construction methods and products, the build team intends to showcase how even a light renovation can significantly improve efficiency.

Post renovation, the home will meet or exceed the highest levels of efficiency and achieve a net-zero energy use balance. It also seeks key performance certifications, including EPA Energy Star and Indoor airPlus standards, National Green Building Standard “Emerald” level and the Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home certification.

Guided tours of the home are available to registered attendees of IBS 2026. Free tickets for the complimentary shuttle bus from and back to the convention center will be distributed from The New American Remodel booth W39 in the West Hall of the Orange County Convention Center on a first-come, first-served basis each day of the Show, beginning at 7:30 AM.
