In this episode of our Women at WIRC podcast series, Cammie Beckert, managing director and co-owner of Cameron Custom in Scottsdale, Arizona, shares her experience of transitioning from the sales and marketing director of a highly successful, family-owned luxury production builder to leading the start-up (and suffering the growing pains) of a new division with a very different business model. Cammie tells the story of how a "trifecta" of circumstances around the sames time—the desire for the "mother ship," Camelot Homes, to diversity; her brother entering that business with an interest in a sales and marketing role; and a request from a friend to remodel a home built when her grandparents ran the company in the 1970s—inspired her to take on the challenge and go her own way ... albeit with the support of her family and the legacy business. Even so, it quickly became clear that Cameron Custom needed to be it's own entity with its own employees, financials, and trade partners. In the end, that new division and Camelot Homes benefitted from the experience and continue to evolve to serve each of their markets with an outstanding customer experience and industry-leading design and construction quality.
