Post-recession bathroom trends are less showy and more contemporary

Whirlpool bathtubs and standalone bidets are no longer seen as signifiers of luxury for the modern, high-end homeowner. In their place is a spacious, his-and-hers shower stall.

The data is the result of a survey by Home Innovation Research Labs (HIRL), a subsidiary of the National Association of Home Builders. As visual aesthetics become more subdued, a demand for increased technology increases, The Wall Street Journal reports. Ornate fixtures and showy décor are making way for features such as waterproof keypad controls, heated floors, and steam showers.
