Comparing Today’s New Home Prices with Those Half a Century Ago

Investors Business Daily reports that today’s U.S. new home sales numbers are 20 percent below what they were 50 years ago, but priced at nearly 15 times the dollar amount.

In 1964, the median single-family home price was $19,300 (which is around $147,000 when adjusted for inflation). The price crossed the $100,000 threshold in 1987 and the $200,000 mark in 2003.
