If you go for ground cover rather than a traditional lawn, expect to expend less time, money, and water, Houselogic says.

Moreover, ground cover can be a greener alternative to traditional lawns when done right. Traditional lawns require 60 gallons of water a day, and not to mention the toxic lawn herbicides and pesticides that run off into lakes and streams.

But with ground cover – think creeping perennials or clover – irrigation and harmful chemicals are reduced, and not as much time is needed to tend to it.
