MarketWatch reports that California Gov. Jerry Brown ordered “unprecedented mandatory water cuts” across the state.

The mandate came after the latest measurements of the state’s mountain snowpack, which accounts for approximately a third of California’s water supply, revealed a record low of 5 percent of normal for this time of year.
