How Many Subcontractors Does It take To Build a Home?

A NAHB study found that it takes, on average, 22 subcontractors to build a typical house.

Around 70 percent of homebuilders uses somewhere between 11 and 30 subcontractors to construct a single-family home.

The study also found which tasks are most frequently farmed out to subcontractors. Security system installation is handled by a subcontractor 97 percent of the time. Carpeting, HVAC, and electrical wiring are other jobs that are often subcontracted.
