There’s a discrepancy when comparing data from CoreLogic and Fannie Mae: the former says the percentage of underwater homeowners is 21 percent, while the latter says 27 percent of households believe they are underwater.
“Most homeowners who think they’re underwater actually aren’t,” writes Steve Goldstein, the D.C. bureau chief for MarketWatch. “That perception may be one reason why so few homes actually are on the market.”
Data from the NAR reveals that inventories fell another 2 percent in October, and remained well below historical levels when compared to the sales pace.
