Utah bill to delay new residential code adoption from three to six years advances

A bill that would delay adoption of the latest residential building code for new home construction in Utah from every three years to six years cleared a legislative committee.

The measure has support from city inspectors and others who say the current process is too cumbersome.

The bill also asks that the Utah Building Code Commission complete a cost-benefit analysis on recommended changes to the code to ensure that modifications, including those that deal with energy savings, are thoroughly scrutinized.
