December 2015 saw the percentage of first-time homebuyers grow to 32 percent of residential sales. This number is a slight increase over November 2015’s 30 percent and December 2014’s 29 percent, according to the Economists’ Outlook blog.
For the 2015 calendar year, first-time homebuyers were 31 percent of residential sales, a number that has remained unchanged since the breakout year for the housing market recovery in 2012.
New York, Pennsylvania, and Illinois saw a larger share of first-time buyers in their markets with numbers of 49 percent, 41 percent, and 40 percent respectively.
