The Internet of Things is becoming more ubiquitous, and all the possibilities, from driverless cars to internet-connected washing machines, are as intriguing as they are practical.

But, as Ira Kalb, an assistant professor of clinical marketing at the University of Southern California, writes on the Huffington Post, the technological advances are being held back.

Among the reasons for the slow growth are breaches in privacy and security and difficulties in learning how to use more complex technologies.
