Large, expensive, and cheaply-made McMansions are fading away, but a new type of mass-produced home is taking their place.

Kate Wagner, contributor to Curbed and author of McMansion Hell, detailed McModerns, a segment of McMansions that are becoming more popular with young professional buyers.

A bit of a throwback to mid-century architecture, McModern homes are marked by their use of minimalism, boxy shapes, and sleek design. They are frequently built in rapidly gentrifying areas along the coasts, or in emerging tech cities in the South.
