Through a little bit of linguistic gymnastics, a builder in Portland, Ore., has legally constructed six micro housing units on one residential lot.
KGW reports that Bradley Bloom built Camp Michigan Avenue, a set of individually themed living spaces that are technically classified as satellite bedrooms, and not tiny homes.
The 182-square foot structures have a shower, toilet and a sink.
Under city code, each detached bedroom is allowed one sink, which, when put altogether, does look an awful lot like a tiny home. "We're really pushing the zoning envelope," admitted Bloom.
City planners say the structures comply with city code, but since they are bedrooms, they cannot be used as long-term housing. They can serve as a room for airbnb users, though.
