With rising home values, high employment rates, and low crime rates, Golden, Colo., is a wonder for people who want an idyllic, peaceful lifestyle.

SmartAsset ranked the best cities in Colorado raise a family. Golden topped the list, followed several other Denver suburbs such as Louisville, Centennial, Lone Tree, and Greenwood Village.

The rankings are based on metrics including percent of families living in poverty, high school graduation rates, average housing costs, median household income, and child care costs.

Pricey but worth it: Many of the cities in our top 10 have a high cost of living. The average median housing cost across our top 10 is over $1,300 per month.

Denver ranked 30th.
