Taking into account home price changes, local wages, and mortgage rates, National Mortgage News found that buyers in Ohio, Kentucky, and Nebraska have the most purchasing power.
Ohio led the rankings. With a median sales price of only $149,000, the state has a First American Real Home Price Index of 55.4, the lowest in the nation (a reading of 100 is equal to conditions in January 2000).
Median home prices are fairly inexpensive in Kentucky ($166,000), Nebraska ($180,500), Alabama ($155,000), and Iowa ($166,000).
