After a long and successful tenure leading the expansion of Kohler Co., the late Herb Kohler Jr. is being remembered by his partners in the housing industry as a design icon and an industry pioneer in the week following his passing. Before the evolution of bathroom design spearheaded by Kohler Jr. and his family company, the bathroom was a room strictly designed for function and devoid of style.
Today, the influence of Kohler Co. is seen in nearly every home remodel, according to Housing Design Matters. From rainfall shower heads to spa baths and every bathroom necessity in between, Herb Kohler Jr. left his mark on bathroom design for decades to come.
Prior to taking over at the helm, bathrooms were considered utilitarian. Designs and colors were ho-hum. Certainly not the sanctuaries we design today. With his Bold Look of Kohler campaign, he introduced color and design and ushered in a new and inspired era that continues to this day.
