According to Apartment Guide, the median rental price for a studio or one-bedroom in the U.S. is $769. But just like single-family homes, the amount of square footage a renter will get varies across the country.

Software company AppFolio visualized possible apartment sizes in 13 major U.S. cities. For that price, renters in Detroit have space to entertain a party of four, but renters in San Francisco may have to keep their wardrobe under their bed.
