The job market and housing market aren’t helping each other as they should

Trulia’s Chief Economist Jed Kolko reports that Trulia’s Housing Barometer – a chart to measure how quickly the housing market is returning to “normal” – found young adult employment and construction starts are slowing the recovery.

“The two lagging Housing Barometer measures, construction and young-adult employment, connect the housing market to the job market,” Kolko says. He cites new Census data that showed how median income has stagnated and household formation is far below normal levels, so “in this recovery, jobs and housing can’t get what they need from each other.”
