In the Kitchen, Home Builders Turn Up the Heat

In the words of CNBC’s Diana Olick, “if your home is your castle, then the kitchen is the Great Hall—it is the heart of the home, radiating the character of the homeowner.”

This enduringly accepted role of the kitchen, Olick says, is reason why home builders are putting a lot of their efforts in offering kitchens that buyers will swoon over in an increasingly pricey, picky, and competitive housing market.

"Kitchens are the focal point of the home. Again and again our buyers tell us, if you get one room right, get our kitchen right," Richard Dugas, CEO of Pulte Group, told CNBC.
