Lack of Affordable Housing Provides Opportunity for Builders

Foreign governments willing to sell land for cheap could spur more housing construction

Some 1.2 billion people worldwide live in substandard housing, and their ranks are rising, according to a report by McKinsey & Co. McKinsey says governments should sell the land they own at below-market prices to spur more housing construction. The shortage of affordable housing could be an opportunity for builders, especially in countries with emerging economies, like China, Russia, and Brazil.
