A new Los Angeles city ordinance that requires all new homes and roof renovations to use cool roof products is costing homeowners a 30% premium as compared to conventional roofs.
That translates into thousands of dollars extra, while also limiting color choices. Some residents have complained about the price and the restricted color palette of white, off-white, pale gray, greenish, reddish-orange and tan.
