As modern exteriors become more popular in the new-home market, Greenwood Village, Colo.-based architecture firm BSB Design offers a few design tips that can help builders and designers create contemporary homes and communities that are both cost-effective and aesthetically appealing to buyers.

The firm suggests relying more heavily on color rather than juggling too many materials; employing clean lines and a lower roof pitch for a simplified appearance; and minimizing window variation for a less busy look, among other tips.

The goal isn’t to strip everything down. It’s about choosing details that matter and using them well. Trim accents, subtle massing shifts, and shadow lines can add character without overwhelming the design. It’s the balance between clean and character-rich that makes simplified exteriors so appealing.
