The McMansion is now borrowing from modernism, giving rise to the McModern. Writing for Curbed, Kate Wagner observes that although McModerns are usually found in places where modernism thrives (the West Coast, the Southwest, and near liberal cities on the East Coast), they’re also beginning to pop up in burgeoning tech hotbeds such as Atlanta and central North Carolina. The McModern, Wagner says, has two separate lineages: it’s foundation as a McMansion and its origins within the greater historical context of popular modernism—that is, modernism for everyday families.
