Milwaukee Tool has introduced the M12 Fuel Surge ¼-inch Hex Hydraulic Driver, a 12V cordless, subcompact driver that the company claims is the first of its kind.

The introduction comes after the release of the 18V version of the tool several years ago. This 12V model is meant to address the needs of Milwaukee users who are already on the 12V platform, creating an ecosystem with compatibility between tools and batteries.

The M12 Fuel Surge Driver uses Milwaukee’s Fluid-Drive Hydraulic Powertrain technology to deliver a combination of reduced noise and sustained torque. As the company explains it, the design “essentially replaces the traditional hammer and anvil mechanism found in standard impacts with a hydraulic mechanism that generates the power necessary to create torque.”

Powertrain eliminates metal-on-metal contact, making the tool performance smoother and allowing for 450 inches per pound of sustained torque. Milwuakee claims its driver puts out two times less noise and vibration than other options, increasing user safety and comfort.

“Milwaukee has always been at the forefront of fastening technology,” says Eric Rusch, a group product manager for Milwaukee Tool. “With the launch of the M18 Fuel Surge we were able to provide a better user experience through quieter operation and less vibration, while driving small to medium diameter fasteners equal to or faster than a standard impact driver.”

“With the introduction of the M12 Fuel Surge we’re bringing this same incredible technology to our M12 subcompact line,” Rusch continues. “The M12 Fuel Surge will be ideal for current and future M12 users that drive lots of small to medium diameter fasteners or perform high amounts of service work.”

As a subcompact tool, the M12 driver can fit into tight workspaces and be transported on a tool belt or in a backpack. The tool also features a Powerstate Brushless Motor, a Redlithium Battery Pack, and Redlink Plus Intelligence Hardware and Software, all of which comes standard on all M12 products.

M12 Fuel Surge ¼-inch Hex Hydraulic Driver will be available in August 2019.
