Two new surveys on homeowner aspiration and preferences find that many have no plans to sell within the next five years, and don't want to move even if they aren't currently living in their "dream home."
In the Zillow Housing Aspirations Report, 76 percent of respondents say that if they were given $10,000 to put toward housing, they'd rather spend it on their current home instead of the purchase of a new home. For homeowners that are 55 years of age or older, the share increases to 87 percent, The Washington Post reports. Additionally, 63 percent of the survey's respondents say they have no intention of ever moving from their current residence, with the top reason being they love their home, and don't want to deal with the trouble of moving.
Americans don’t want to move — they don’t want to move even if they don’t love their home. The majority of homeowners (61 percent) say they’re not living in their “dream home,” according to recent research by Open Listing, a home-buying platform division of Opendoor. Even so, researchers found that 1 in 3 of those homeowners have no plans to sell and move for at least one to five years.
