New Compact Home Elevator Makes Two-Story Homes More Accessible

For two-story home owners that have problems getting up stairs, there usually comes a point when having to decide between installing bulky machinery, like a stair lift, or moving to a one-story residence. Terry Lifts’ Lifestyle Home Elevator is a good solution.

Fast Company says the glass-paneled lift runs on a pair of rails and is powered by a hydraulic system. It is compact, fits into the corner or a room and doesn’t have a dangerous elevator shaft. When on a lower level, the top of the elevator becomes the floor of the second floor, and when up, the bottom becomes the ceiling of the first floor.

It’s safe too, as sensors can track when there are objects underneath a descending elevator. The lift has drawn comparisons to devices used in Star Trek and Doctor Who.
