Owners enthused over geothermal system after expanding Westport, Conn., home

The system has eliminated oil and gas bills for the 1950s-era, 1,800-sf home.

The owners of a Westport, Conn., home boast about their low heating costs after an expansion project that included a geothermal system. The 1950s-era 1,800-sf dwelling received a 1,000-sf expansion and extensive energy-efficiency improvements. Cost savings have been substantial. "We have no oil or gas bill,” the owner says. “We just have an electric bill. In some months, it's under $200 and sometimes it's $500, but that's when it's really, really freezing.”
