Rentership communities, single-family home communities with rental housing rather than for-sale housing, are expected to be a major trend among master planned communities this year. People in all income ranges and all regions of the country are choosing to rent for several reasons.
Among the driving factors are increased mobility of families, rapid career changes, preferences for a low-maintenance lifestyle, and lifestyle needs. Affordability, with renting not requiring a large down payment, is also a key driver.
Another trend this year will be the continuing waning of golf courses as a planned community amenity.
