Why Home Builders Can't--Or Won't--Meet Housing Demand

The inability of home builders to get access to credit is holding them back from meeting housing demand, says Christopher Whalen, senior managing director and head of research for the Kroll Bond Rating Agency. “During the [housing] crisis a lot of banks around the country, especially in the Southeast from Georgia on down, got hurt very badly with construction and development loans on residential homes.” Builders need to overcome two other obstacles: lot and labor shortages.
