Four Cities Where Millennials Actually Act Like Grownups

The latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that just over 35 percent of people age 18 to 35 own a home, compared to nearly four in 10 who did six years ago. But in four American cities, the majority of Millennials are bucking that trend, according to a new study by financial firm SmartAsset. The cities where more than half of Millennials are homeowners are Elk Grove, Calif.; Gilbert, Ariz.; Frisco, Texas; and Port St. Lucie, Fla. That’s because Millennials who do buy homes are often looking for a combination of affordability and well-paid jobs among other lifestyle factors, says Cheryl Young, senior economist at Trulia.
