Turning a Standard Feature Into a Solid Upgrade

For homebuilders, the right upgrade has to accomplish more than simply look better. It needs to add value for the homebuyer while fitting naturally into the building and installation process.

That was the opportunity facing Flagship Homes when a homebuyer requested solid shelves in place of the standard wire fixed-mount shelving planned for the home.

ClosetMaid® FastFinish™ provided a realistic way to deliver that upgrade.

Rather than limiting the project to standard ventilated shelving, Flagship Homes selected FastFinish for storage areas throughout the home. Approximately 84 feet of shelving was installed, giving the homebuyer the solid-surface look and functionality they wanted while giving the builder another option for elevating the storage experience.

Helping the Builder See the Possibilities

The opportunity involved more than selecting a different shelving product. ClosetMaid also helped Flagship Homes visualize how the upgraded storage could work within the home's available spaces.

The ClosetMaid team developed storage-area layouts and provided renderings showing the proposed shelving solution before installation. This additional design support helped communicate the FastFinish option and demonstrate how the finished product could meet the homebuyer’s request.

For builders, that kind of visualization can help turn storage from a standard specification into a more tangible upgrade opportunity.

A First FastFinish Installation

The project was also the first FastFinish installation completed by 31-W Insulation's Myrtle Beach team.

As installers became familiar with the new system, the initial installation took approximately two hours. The project provided the team with hands-on experience installing FastFinish while successfully completing the upgraded storage package for Flagship Homes.

Positive Feedback—and Another Opportunity Ahead

The completed project delivered on the key issue: provide the homebuyer with the solid-surface shelving they requested while giving Flagship Homes an achievable option to standard wire shelving.

Feedback from the builder was very positive, and Flagship Homes plans to use FastFinish again on an upcoming project.

For ClosetMaid, the project demonstrates how thoughtful storage design, professional support and the right product offering can help builders create meaningful upgrade opportunities—without losing sight of the practical demands of new-home construction.
