Tampa is revamping previously underutilized downtown shoreline with several multibillion-dollar development projects.
The wave of new construction is being led by Water Street Tampa, a $3 billion, 16-block mixed-use development slated to be partially finished by 2021. The new neighborhood sits on a former industrial site. According to Curbed, the construction team has redesigned the street grid to be walkable and bikeable, and will add waterfront paths and nearly 13 acres of new parks.
Following the recent moves of several large companies to downtown Tampa, the new developments will house an influx of young professionals and tech workers. The development will also house the $164.7 million University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute, which is intended to become the center of an emerging medical-tech hub.
