A new ranking of the 50 top-selling master-planned communities (MPCs) in the U.S. in 2018 lists communities with more than 320 homes sold, outpacing 2017's communities' sales.
According to the new list by John Burns Real Estate Consulting (JBREC), about 28,500 homebuyers bought new homes in these communities in 2018. The Villages in Florida topped the list with 2,138 net sales, and Lakewood Ranch in Sarasota, Fla. came in second, with 1,482 net sales for the year. Summerlin, an MPC in Las Vegas from developer The Howard Hughes Company came in third, and Sarasota's West Villages and Orange County, Calif.'s Irvine Ranch rounded out the top five.
Master-planned communities continue to dominate the new home sales scene, achieving sales and pricing premiums for offering a well thought out, highly desirable lifestyle to homeowners in all life stages. For decades, [the JBREC] team has been helping developers maximize sales by segmenting the community by life stage, price range, lot size, and a lifestyle built around the amenities and programming suitable for the local market.
