Green Mountain Power in Vermont is the first utility in the U.S. to offer customers help to go completely off the grid without huge upfront costs. The company’s new pilot program provides off-grid PV and battery storage systems tailored for customers who would need long power line extensions due to their locations far off the grid. The program also gives the utility a way to lower costs for all customers by reducing the number of high-maintenance connections.
