Installing a new roof, hardwood flooring, or refinishing hardwood floors were the best remodeling projects for recovering costs and adding value for resale, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
The NAR combined responses from three surveys—a poll of nearly 2,200 consumers in June and July by HouseLogic and two of its own for a combined total of 5,100 homeowners—to find out what remodeling project they tackled and their satisfaction with the outcome. The report also included cost estimate averages for the remodel and how much of that investment can be recouped in resale value.
A sleek kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances is most likely of any interior home improvement project to appeal to buyers and increase the value of a home, according to the report.
"Homeowners were both happy and satisfied with the outcome of their" kitchen renovations, says Brandi Snowden, director of consumer research at NAR. "A kitchen renovation is a great way for new owners to customize their home and incorporate their personal tastes into a room that they will use every day."
