Cities With The Best And Worst Credit Scores

Tech workers in Silicon Valley make a lot of money and know how to take care of it.

WalletHub ranked the cities that are best and worst at handling personal finances. Several Northern California cities, including Cupertino (which ranked first), Los Altos, Palo Alto, Saratoga, Foster City, and Sunnyvale, finished in the top 10.

The rankings were based on factors such as median credit score, debt-to-income ratios, and the average number of late payments. More than 2,500 cities were evaluated.

Cities at the bottom of the list include Ypsilanti, Mich., Flagstaff, Ariz., and Ellensburg, Wash.

A survey of consumer financial literacy reflects a growing need for financial instruction in U.S. households. Only 56 percent of adults, for instance, give their knowledge of personal finance high marks, and just two in five maintain a budget and keep an eye on their spending.
