Pay Growth in the Biggest U.S. Cities

Pay in the U.S. grew 2.6 percent on average year-over-year in September, but in six of the country’s biggest cities it grew by even more.

According to Business Insider, San Francisco saw the largest wage increases, at 3.9 percent for a median base pay of $70,361. The Bay Area city was followed by New York City (3 percent), Los Angeles (2.9 percent), Chicago and Philadelphia (2.8 percent each), and Seattle (2.7 percent).

"Despite a lull in early 2018, pay growth is accelerating amid a healthy job market with no signs of slowing down through the rest of the year," wrote Glassdoor economist Daniel Zhao in the study.
