Americans Across the Political Spectrum Support Housing Affordability Reform
Americans across the political spectrum are in support of federal policies that make housing more affordable, a recent survey from real estate marketing platform Redfin shows. The survey includes over 4,000 Americans across political lines, with 77% saying they believe there should be federal policies that make homes more affordable.
Which specific policies are Americans backing?
Of those surveyed, 79% say there should be tax breaks for first-time homebuyers, and 76% say there should be caps on rent increases. Additionally, 75% believe there should be stronger initiatives for building homes for low-income families, and 74% think there should be better programs for down payment assistance.
Democrats are more likely than Republicans to support reforms that improve housing affordability, but not by much
The survey shows that among the two groups, Democrats are generally more likely than Republicans to support housing affordability reform, but only by a little. For instance, 83% of Democrats say there should be policies that make homes more affordable compared with 74% of Republicans who say the same.
