Americans Are Moving in Search of Better Weather

More so than affordability concerns, Americans are moving states for better weather

More so than affordability challenges, weather and climate concerns top the reasons Americans are choosing to move states. According to a report from real estate marketing platform Redfin, 22% of U.S. residents who are moving to a different state are doing so in search of better weather.

Better weather is a top concern for homebuyers

Among 29 options in Redfin’s survey, better weather was the top reason movers say they’re looking to move states. Additionally, 21% say they’re concerned about climate change. Meanwhile, 19% say they’re moving states for a new job, and 18% each say they’re moving to be closer to family, for lower overall cost of living, and to upgrade to a better neighborhood.

Many movers are looking for a location that aligns with their ideal lifestyle, and weather can play a meaningful role in that decision.
