In an effort to advance its philanthropic mission, the Atlanta Division of Houston-based home builder David Weekley Homes recently partnered with nonprofit organization HomeAid Georgia to benefit the Calvary Refuge Center. The center provides unhoused people in the Atlanta community with short-term housing as well as meals. However, after many years of service, its facilities were in need of major repairs and upgrades.

Over 240 volunteer hours went into completing more than 100 tasks at the center, including major mold remediation in five rooms now outfitted with new drywall, air-conditioning repairs, and the addition of humidistats and ceiling fans. Volunteers also removed old bunk beds and built 10 new ones, repainted, upgraded bathroom fixtures, and constructed cubbies for residents to stow their items. Outside, David Weekley Homes’ grading experts resolved water drainage issues. The playground also got a refresh with mulch and the addition of new plants and trees.

“It’s a good place to be to work for a company that genuinely cares for the community,” says Samantha Adams, the land development associate and CARE program coordinator at David Weekley Homes' Atlanta division. “I didn’t come from much, and I remember the impact the kindness of others had on my own life. Being in a position to give back and positively impact others truly means a great deal to me."

"The scope of work we were able to complete on behalf of Calvary Refuge and its clients would not have been possible without the prep work of our vendors, and even more came out to help on the actual day," he adds. "All told, we engaged more than 50 Team Members, vendors, and family members on our 2025 Build Day, and what we were able to accomplish together was nothing short of miraculous. It was more than a construction project. It was a unifying effort driven by heart, sweat, and teamwork. The Calvary Refuge Center now offers improved comfort, dignity, and safety for those it serves, and we’re proud of every partner who made that happen.”
