The share of movers looking to move to a new metro has increased as buyers seek out more affordable options. A recent report from real estate marketing platform Redfin shows that homebuyers who are moving outside of their current metro are opting for the Sun Belt where prices are more attainable.

Which metros are the most popular?

Of the 10 metros buyers are moving to, nine of them are in Florida. Most movers are headed to Las Vegas, followed by three Florida metros: North Port, Orlando, and Miami. Sacramento, Calif., rounds out the top five.

Meanwhile, expensive coastal cities—including Los Angeles, New York City, and Seattle—are losing more house hunters than anywhere else in the country.

More buyers are leaving their home town in search of affordability

In general, homebuyers are more willing to move to a different city if housing there is affordable. The report shows that one in five house hunters, about 18.7%, are moving from one place in the country to another. This is an increase from the 18.1% recorded a year earlier and the highest Q-2 share dating back to 2021.
