Detroit Is Introducing Tiny Homes For The Low-Income Population

In an effort to provide housing for low-income residents, Detroit is building tiny homes on vacant lots.

Curbed Detroit reports that the homes will be from 250 to 400 square feet and will cost $48,000 to build. They are available on a rent-to-own plan, with rents starting at $300 per month.

So why don’t they just rehab vacant structures around the area? They have. Cass Community Social Services has renovated apartment buildings in the area, which now house a low-income population. Tiny homes are easy to maintain, and could give residents ownership in the future.
