Tech hubs came out on top of a recent list of metros that currently have the best home selling conditions, including San Francisco and San Jose, Calif., and Seattle.
Based on data tracking the share of for-sale listings with price discounts, days on market, and sale-to-list price ratios, Zillow's Buyer-Seller Index shows that San Francisco was the top overall for home sellers, with the smallest share of price cuts, 11.5 percent, in January, and had the shortest median number of days for-sale on the market, 57 in December 2018.
These are also three of the priciest markets in the country, which can be attractive for sellers, depending on how much they paid for their homes and how long they’ve owned them. In San Francisco, the best market for sellers overall, the median home value is $957,400. In San Jose, it’s $1.25 million.
