The path of homeownership for Tonya Adair, a 47-year-old teacher in Milwaukee, isn’t quite the same as it was for her 73-year-old father when he was her age in Louisiana.

CNBC profiles the story of the Caldwells, who grew up in a house built by their father, a custodian in a department store, back in the 60s and 70s.

The Caldwell children, now with families of their own, have faced the trials and tribulations of the housing crisis and all lost their homes to foreclosures, their stories reflecting those of many other Americans.
