Extra Big Houses Are Going Up in Delaware

Residents of Rehoboth Beach in Delaware say projects are “ballooning beyond reason because of profit-seeking investors,” Delaware Online reports.

Proposed zoning laws to be debated at a public hearing would put more barriers for builders wishing to construct homes over a certain size with a certain number of rooms. This will be done by requiring more off-street parking spaces for each bathroom added above a three-bathroom baseline.

Proponents of the proposal say it will help control the construction of “mini-hotels” in the resort town, as well as prevent older cottages from being demolished to make way for modern mansions.
