Detroit Seeks Squatters For Abandoned Homes

Sometimes, squatters exacerbate issues with urban blight in Detroit. But sometimes, they can be the solution.

Bloomberg reports that many traditional property owners in the city have become comfortable with squatters as caretakers of abandoned homes. Since they have long-term ambitions of living in the property, they take care of it.

Productive squatters are people who can’t afford to pay for traditional housing, including those who continued to live in their homes after foreclosure.
