Preparing for the Solar Blackout

With solar being an increasing contributor of power to the electric grid, U.S. utilities are reserving spare capacity and preparing other strategies for a solar eclipse that will sweep across the United States on Aug. 21. When the moon's shadow passes over the earth, California will lose enough solar generating capacity during those couple of hours that would be equivalent to power a large city.
