Softwood Lumber And OSB Prices Continue To Increase

June 14, 2017

According to the new Producer Price Index (PPI) from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the prices of softwood lumber and OSB increased 2.2 and 3.3 percent, respectively, in May.

NAHB reports that the softwood lumber price index is as its highest level since September 2004, and the index has gone up 12.9 percent since early 2017 and 21.6 percent than January 2016. The price hikes are due in large part to the softwood lumber trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada.

The OSB price index has risen 22.4 percent over the last year, and 34.3 percent since January 2016.
