After hurricanes Harvey and Irma impacted six of the top 15 housing markets in the U.S. within the last month, the home building industry waits to see what the long-term effects will be.
Speaking with CNBC, Credit Suisse homebuilder analyst Susan Maklari said that home builders will be able to make up for recent losses with a strong fourth quarter and 2018, but the market for building products is a little less certain.
She said that it will take four to six months to get a sense of the total damage caused by the storms, as homeowners go through their insurance processes.
“Something to note is that part of this is dependent on capacity — how much industry decides to bring on — and that will really kind of help in terms of volume versus price and how that all comes together next year," Maklari said.
